Instructor Communication
I will be active in your learning experience in this course. Each week, you will receive an announcement from me. You will also receive assignment feedback from me in Blackboard.
To contact me, please email me at [email protected]. If I don’t respond within 24 hours on a weekday, please email me again just in case I didn’t receive it!
I will reply to your message within 24 hours during the week (usually much quicker). On holidays and weekends, I need a break too so I may be slower or I may not respond until Monday. If you prefer to meet with me live, please message me with a few time options that you are available. Once we find a time that works for both of us, we can meet in Zoom (click on the Virtual Office link on our homepage) or via phone.
Late Work Policy
Due dates are like targets. They are your goal and you should always strive to meet them. Getting behind is an overwhelming feeling and can easily cause you to not pass an online class. If you need an extension, message me and request one. Propose a new due date and we’ll come to an agreement. If you miss a due date, don’t be too hard on yourself. These are tough times. Make up the assignment as soon as possible and message me so I know you are working on it (Do you see the theme here? Keeping in touch with me is important!). When proposing a new due date, you should email me with the following:
- which assignment(s) you will be submitting late
- the date you will submit by
- the % amount of the full grade you expect with the late submission (for example, an assignment turned in within one week might be only worth 90% of the full grade, within two weeks, 75% and so on)
Check my course announcements to identify the last date I will accept missing work.
Class Participation/Drop Policy & Attendance
Plagiarism & Academic Dishonesty Policy
In this course, you will demonstrate your learning through writing, speaking, and creation assignments. Plagiarism is the use of another person’s ideas as your own and it includes writing, speaking, and creative projects. When you respond to an assignment prompt, I expect you to craft your answer in your own words. I don’t expect you to be a master of the material in our course – you’re learning! I am looking for evidence of your growth and development.
You may be surprised how easy it is for an instructor to identify when a student has lifted words from a webpage or copied from an AI bot. Just don’t do it. Take the time to learn the material, take a close look at each assignment, and respond independently, in your own words.
Kingsborough Community College strives to promote academic integrity among students to help prepare them for their future endeavors. The International Center for Academic Integrity defines academic integrity by 5 core values. These values are as follows:
- Honesty: The quest for truth and knowledge by requiring intellectual and personal honesty in learning, teaching, research, and service
- Trust: Academic institutions must foster a climate of mutual trust in order to stimulate the free exchange of ideas.
- Fairness: All interactions among students, faculty and administrators should be grounded in clear standards, practices and procedures.
- Respect: Learning is acknowledged as a participatory process, and a wide range of opinions and ideas is respected.
- Responsibility: A thriving community demands personal accountability on the part of all members and depends upon action in the face of wrongdoing.
To reach academic success, one needs to uphold the 5 core values of honesty, trust, fairness, respect and responsibility. Failure to do so may result in charges of academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty is prohibited by CUNY and Kingsborough Community College and is punishable by penalties, including failing grades, suspension, and expulsion. Examples of academic dishonesty include, but are not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, internet plagiarism, obtaining unfair advantages, and falsification of records.
